Every generation of Nike's speed boot

Nike built the first Mercurial for Ronaldo at the 1998 World Cup, and the Vapor followed in 2002. Since then it has been Nike's speed boot: low, light and narrow, refreshed every year or two. The sock-collared Superfly joined the family in 2009. Retailers only stock the current generation, so if you want an older Vapor (the IX, X, XI or XII, or a leather-upper Vapor 13 Tech Craft), secondhand is the only way to get one. We hunt for them and list each pair with its exact US size and honest condition notes.

Player editions: CR7, Neymar and Mbappé

Mercurials are the boots Nike makes signature editions on, so a lot of the collectable pairs carry a player's name: Cristiano Ronaldo's CR7 releases, Neymar's NJR editions and Mbappé's colourways among them. They're made in limited numbers and rarely come up in Australia. When one does, it's listed in the grid above. The rarest go to our Grails collection, and the pairs that have already sold stay listed below so you can see what's come through.

Fit and sizing

Mercurials run snug and narrow. They're built for a locked-in fit, and older synthetic uppers don't stretch much. If you're between sizes or have a wider foot, compare against a boot you already own. Every listing shows the exact US size, and our stud guide covers which soleplate suits which surface. See all our Nike boots here.

FAQs

What's the difference between the Mercurial Vapor and the Superfly?

They share the same speed-boot design and soleplate. The Vapor is the low-cut version, and the Superfly adds a sock-like collar around the ankle. Which one is better comes down to whether you like that collar.

Can I still buy older Mercurials like the Vapor IX or Vapor 13?

Not new, since Nike only sells the current generation, but they do come up secondhand. Everything we have in stock is in the grid above, with past pairs listed below it. If you're after a specific generation and size, message us on Instagram and we'll try to source it.

Are your Mercurials genuine?

Yes. Every pair is sourced and inspected in person by The Boot Connection before it's listed, with real photos of the exact pair you'll receive and honest condition notes.
